As its name suggests, Metamorphosis provides an opportunity for young local dancers to metamorphose into able, professional dancers as preparation for professional dance careers, usually abroad.

 

Metamorphosis was formed in November 1994 by a group of three teachers from the Caribbean School of Dancing - Nancy Herrera, Carol Yip Choy and Christel De Souza (now residing in England), who were interested in establishing a professional dance company. Nancy Herrera continues as the company’s Artistic Director and is accompanied by Rehearsal Director Bridgette Wilson. Once integrated into the company, all dancers are expected to be proficient, at a minimum, in classical ballet and modern dance. Most of the company members have also achieved high levels of proficiency in Afro-Caribbean folk dance, Jazz and Tap. The majority of the repertoire is modern and contemporary.

 

The company has worked and continues to work in close collaboration with various local and international artists, such as the Lydian Singers, Trinidad and Tobago's leading choir; Choreographers: Noble Douglas, Sonja Dumas, Dave Williams, Richard Lessey, Bridgette Wilson, Patricia Roe, Gregor Breedy, Claudia Applewaite, Frederick Jahn, Patricia Ruanne, Roderick Johnson, Sat Balkaransingh, Gary DeMatas, Joyce Kirton, Delton Frank, Jeffrey Carter, Reggie Wilson, Nicole Wesley, Elvis Radgman, Ronald Taylor, Priya Malhotra,Major Nesby who has daced with Ailey II and Ballet Hispanico, Taurus Broadhurst founder/ artistic director of Washington DC based company Taurus Broadhurst Dance, Viki Psihoyos a former Balanchine dancer, Terry Springer the artistic director of Coearte in Venezuela; former Martha Graham soloist Peter London; former Alvin Ailey dancer André Largen; leading Caribbean director Tony Hall; the late  Beryl Mc Burnie, Trinidad and Tobago's "Grande Dame" of Dance, Astor Johnson, Aubrey Adams, Pat Bishop and Carlisle Chang; Designers Robert Las Heras, Gillian Bishop, John Christopher and Simone Phillips; master drummer Everald "Redman" Watson.

 

Metamorphosis has represented Trinidad in 9 cities worldwide. these include early touring in the UK both in 2002 and 2004, India, Costa Rica, Edinburgh Fringe Festivaland Suriname for Carifesta. We will again be part of the regional cultural show as Trinidad hosts Carifesta in 2019.  for 10 years the company participated annually in the CoCo dance Festival. CoCo is an international festival held in Trinidad which has showcased the talents of our dancers and choreographers.

 

It has also been active in community outreach through its presentation, "Gabriel - Your Angel Lives in You", a self-esteem project for young people, conceptualized and choreographed by Sonja Dumas.

 

Metamorphosis continues to build its repertoire around contemporary works, many of which have relevance in a Caribbean context. The company aims to continue to develop dancers and to share this work locally, regionally and internationally.

 

Celebrated Dance Masters Choreograph for Metamorphosis Season 2012 and will also return in 2019.

Dance Masters of international acclaim, Frederic Jahn and Patricia Ruanne, viisted Trinidad to choreograph for a local version of the popular ballet, Giselle, on talented dancers of the Metamorphosis Dance Company for its April 2012 dance production.

 

Nancy Herrera did her formative training as a dancer in Trinidad and then went to England to pursue a Degree in Dance Education done conjointly between The London College of Dance and Drama and Bedford College.

She returned to Trinidad in 1984 and straddled both worlds of dance;

Peter London is a Trinidad born dancer, choreographer and professor of

dance.

His dance education ranges from both local, such as the Caribbean School

of Dancing Limited, and internationally acclaimed institutions; the Julliard

School and the Miami Dade College/ New World School of the Arts.

Bridgette Wilson;

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Bridgette trained in classical ballet and modern dance at the Caribbean

School of Dancing. In 2002 she was invited to join the Metamorphosis Dance Company where she was

exposed to Afro-Caribbean Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Bridgette and Nicole Wesley. In 2005, Bridgette .
